10 Ways to Prepare for Warm Weather

Happy May everyone! Spring is officially in full bloom! It’s still a bit chilly here in Toronto, but I’ve been taking full advantage of the rainy weather and have been doing some final spring cleaning edits and errands! I’m so so so excited for the warm weather and I can’t wait to wear crop tops, shorts and chill on patios all spring/summer long! This past winter was BRUTAL! We got over 100cm of snow in February alone, so my body has taken a huge toll. I’m talking dry hair, dry skin, and a leftover chocolate belly from Valentine’s day. Here are 10 ways I’m preparing for spring/summer!

  1. Hydrate your hair with masks & oils

For the past few weeks, I’ve been focusing on rehydrating my hair. My hair was SO DRY because of the brutal winter, so I’ve been using tons of hair masks and hair oils everyday to add some much needed hydration. Some of my favorite products are The Body Shop’s vegan haircare products. It’s gentle on the skin and leaves my scalp feeling hydrated and my hair silky smooth.

2. Update your sunscreen & moisturizers

During the warmer months, I like to swamp my moisturizers and sunscreens for ones that are water based and less thick. I have combination skin, so I tend to get an oily t-zone during the warmer months. I’ve recently been using the Vichy SPF 50 sunscreen. I love how thin it is and it doesn’t leave an oily residue like other sunscreens. I’ve also linked other favorite skincare products from The Face Shop!

3. Use spring colored makeup

I’ve been swapping dark colored makeup for warmer pastel colors. I love rocking a coral, pink, nude or hot pink lips during the spring months. My favorite brand for lipsticks is Guerlain. It’s a little pricey but I LOVE the quality and hydrating feeling of their lipsticks. Every color I’ve tried from their line perfectly matches with my skin tone. I also only use Tarte blushes because it’s complementary on every skin tone and all their palettes are gorgeous!

4. Get a manicure & pedicure

I try to do my own mani and pedi at home when I can, however, after a long winter, sometimes they need a little bit more love. I usually get a full exfoliation and love how soft and clean everything feels afterwards! I’m so ready for sandal season 🙂 I’ve been using pastel colored polishes such as lilac, light grey, nudes and pinks lately.

5. Update your wardrobe for spring

I’ve been doing a tiny bit of shopping lately to update my wardrobe for spring. I try to choose items that I’ll still love next year and pieces that build upon the foundation pieces I already have in my wardrobe. I limit myself to a very small budget with seasonal pieces because I don’t want to go too crazy buying items that I might not wear again. I invest in items that I feel are missing from my wardrobe! Recently I got some casual dresses since I realized I don’t have any for running errands or casual dates.

6. Do a closet cleanout

Every season, I like to go through my wardrobe and clean out items I don’t wear often or don’t love 100%. I use Marie Kondo’s method of only keeping items that bring me joy. This will include items that don’t make me feel confident, items that don’t fit well, or items that have been put aside for years, waiting to be altered. I also only have a set amount of hangers in my closet which I limit myself to. The hangers are enough for the closet that I have and it forces me to reevaluate my wardrobe before I add more pieces. Donate the unwanted items to shelters or second hand stores that recycle clothing.

7. Attend bootcamp classes

My gym recently started a bootcamp conditioning class for the spring season. I’ve been attending for the past two weeks and have DIED! The classes are so intense and I sweat buckets by the end of class. Every year, I always tell myself that I plan to get “summer body” ready, but it never happens. This year, one of my goals is to make to create and stick to a healthy fitness routine. It’s only been a few months, but I already see small changes to my body. 🙂

8. Do a detox and eat clean

On the flip side, our fitness is only as good as the food we put into our bodies. I love food (a little too much) and love eating tons of carbs. I’ve been trying to be more conscious of my portions and what I’m putting into my body. I try to allow at least 1 cheat day per week for date nights or to eat whatever I want. So far, it’s been a bit of a fail, but luckily it’s a new month, so let’s give this another try!

9. Clean your car

This is one I still need to get around to! We’re so focused on spring cleaning our homes, but we should also look to spring clean our cars! The salt, mud and rain accumulates overtime, so it’s important to give your interior and exterior a deep clean. I can’t wait to have the windows down and sun roof open! 🙂

10. Prepare your home for spring

Small swaps to home decor can make a huge difference in your home. Think some fresh flowers, doing some minor landscaping, changing out the decorative pillows for spring themed ones.
